When the war in Ukraine started, Asmara H. saw students struggling to leave and find safety, so she decided to help. With her community’s support, 450 students were evacuated to Germany—Asmara and volunteers were then able to maintain communication with the students via WhatsApp. From accommodations, to toiletries, to helping register for new classes, she’s made sure the students feel supported and cared for as they rebuild in a brand new country.

For the second part, we visited Kimmich’s village Bösingen where he grew up and his former soccer club, where he celebrated his first successes. We interviewed his school friend and his fitness coach and enabled ESPN to participate in the interviews via live conference.
